It's too cold... I wish I was still on holiday!!!

Summer...bah!!!  It has been miserable today.  I don't think that it has stopped raining at all today.  Every time I have looked out of the window there has been rain.  My husband greeted us with 'Happy Sunday' this morning at breakfast time and the Tinker said "daddy it is not Sunday, it is raining"!!!

At least I have the memories of beautiful sunshine, clear blue sea, soft sand, needing an ice cold beer... the list goes on.

We had a fabulous holiday.  We went back to Puerto de Pollenca in Mallorca, after having a great time there last year.  We decided that this was an area we would like to explore more, and hired a car so we could get into the mountains and do a little more traveling.  Although we didn't do as much exploring as we initially intended, the children just wanted to swim and visit the beach, we did have some fantastic experiences... some of which I would not like to re-live!!!

I thought I would share some holiday pictures with you.

This was the very scary drive the Formentor lighthouse.  There really were some spectacular views, including those of the bay of Puerto de Pollenca, but there were shear drops off the side of the (very narrow) road, resulting in me having sore fingers from gripping the side of my seat!!

One of the things I love the most about holidays is visiting the old parts of towns and walking down streets like these...

Although we are not a religious family, we do have a tendency to drift towards religious buildings... I guess because of the architecture, but there is also the guarantee of magnificent stained glass in larger churches.

Most of all, I loved the huge smiles I saw so much of on the faces of my gorgeous ones!!

Domestic Goddess. Well trying to be!!!

I can't believe that a week ago today we were waiting very patiently for a very delayed plane to bring us back home.  A week later I am still trying to get on top of washing, whilst also trying to be super mum/wife by managing numerous piles of mess (toys/papers/crayons), creating food, and finding things for the children to do... not only is the weather counterproductive for my washing, it is so much more difficult when the children can't get out.

Yesterday, I made fairy cakes (it always has to be fairy cakes, "well I am a fairy mummy"!!!) with both of the children, and when the little tinker was having his afternoon nap, the fairy got out her decorating equipment.  Knowing what the fairy is like when it comes to decorating cake with sugary bits, I put six of the cakes to one side and asked for her to keep them very simple.  The rest she could do what she wanted.

Here's what we got...

... the plain ones were 'just' covered in buttercream and two different types of sugar strands!!!  Proper fairy cakes, wouldn't you agree?!

It was fabulous though.  Our little chatter box of a fairy was so absorbed in her decorating task, I had peace and quite for almost an hour!!!  I was able to start piecing together a patchwork that I have been meaning to complete for months.  Today, whilst the tinker was asleep and the fairy was busy creating secret codes I was able to start quilting...

... I am hand quilting as I am doing circles.  Although quite relaxing, it is very time consuming and I have only managed to get half of it done.  It has also given me a sore finger.  I tried to use a thimble, but it just wasn't working for me (if anyone can recommend a thimble, please do).  Hopefully I will have it done by the end of the week (?!!!)

Ant to finish with...

... hooray, summer is here!  Well, it was for about an hour and a half anyway.  Thought we would make the most of the sun peeping out through the clouds by venturing into the park.  Three quarters of the way round we heard the sky start to rumble!!!  Time for a game of 'charge'!!  We made it back without getting wet, and managed to get the washing (very, very nearly dry for the first time since we got back) off the line before the rain started.  

Recycle, recycle, recycle

I have a problem. I hate throwing fabric away. Even if they are really teeny bits, I find it very difficult to head for the bin with them (even though that is where some of them belong!!). I also have fabric that I have reclaimed from items of clothing, often not big enough to do that much with. I decided over Easter that I would start cutting out triangles from my scraps and make them into bunting. I love bunting. It looks so cute flying about in the wind, and reminds me of the street parties as a young child! Ahh nostalgia. I particularly love the pink bunting that I have made as there are loads of bits of fabric that I have been unable to part with from garments my daughter has grown out of. What a great way of keeping bits of your children's things. Anyway. I did go a bit mad and made a little more than needed, so have put some up for sale in my Folksy shop.

Where has time gone to?

Yesterday I

finally managed to get round to taking some pics of the pinnies I finished a few weeks ago. I love the blues in the patterned fabrics I have used. They work perfectly with the plain cornflower blue. The ties at the back of the pinnies look gorgeous. I think my favourite is the one with the large navy flowers. It has a fabulous turquoise that reminds me of crystal clear waters of Leonidion (Plaka) on the Peloponnese in Greece. They are obviously giving me a summery feeling!!! Which is your favourite?
